Jerry Gaudet reports:Ruth and Willis Rimmer call attention to the passing of Joe Kirkley. Willis played golf with Joel on Tuesday. When Joel didn't come into work on Friday, his son checked on him and found him dead, we understand from a massive heart attack.

| Joel L. Kirkley, Jr.
Mr. Kirkley age 68, of Charlotte, died January 14, 2005 at his residence.
Mr. Kirkley was born August 13, 1936 in Jefferson, SC, son of the late Joel L. Kirkley Sr. and Grace Threatt Kirkley. He graduated from Central High School in Charlotte, served in the US Navy from 1954-1957, and received his undergraduate and law degree from Wake Forest University in 1964. Mr. Kirkley had a private law practice in Charlotte for over 40 years. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed vacations at the beach.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM Tuesday, January 18 at McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Paul and a sister Dottie. Survivors include his wife, Judith Kirkley; sons, Joel L. 'Josh' Kirkley, III and wife, Mary, and Nicholas Stephen Kirkley and wife, Michelle, all of Charlotte; brothers, John Kirkley of Atlanta and Jerry Kirkley of Wilmington; and grandchildren, Russell, Joel Douglass, William, and McKenzie.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
