Great news from Al Selby
"I went to the DR yesterday for a 1 week followup visit. He said the X-Ray looked real good and the lung is apparently fully inflated and not leaking air any more. He check the valve and decided to pull the chest drain tube. He pulled the drain tube. I am home and feeling much better. I still have to use Oxygen some, but not near as much as before yesterday. He told me not to drive for another week. He said I could pull the bandages off Saturday, get a shower, and do pretty much what I wanted to around the house, if I felt like it.
This is definitely good news and I am much closer to being back to normal. Still can't lift anything.
Thank you all for your many prayers. It has to be the answer. I doubt my crappy lungs would have ever healed without prayer and help from the great physician."

Ellouise goes on the road.

That's the way the Montgomery County (Maryland) Gazette described it. Here's what the article said:
"Chevy Chase resident and professional storyteller Ellouise Schoettler will be taking her tall tales on the road this fall, but county residents can get a preview when she performs in Kensington next month.
Schoettler will kick off the third season of storytelling from7:30-9 p.m., Sept. 3, at the Kensington Row Book Shop, located at 3786 Howard Ave., Kensington. She will be performing stories that she will be performing out of town in September and October.
Schoettler has been selected as one of four regional tellers to join the national-teller lineup at the fifth annual Williamsburg Storytelling Festival and she will be a headliner at the first Grand Rivers Storytelling Festival in Grand Rivers, Ky., later this fall.
The original stories, which are meant for grown-ups, talk about family and personal life.
"Fifteen years ago my family stories were mostly about my parents and their ‘old days,'" Schoettler said in a statement. "Today, at 72, my stories have their own old days. Every day is a story and I count myself lucky to be having so much fun telling them."
Schoettler has lived half her life in Chevy Chase, but her stories are nourished by her North Carolina roots and have a distinctly southern flavor."
(Ellouise ALSO has produced 2 CDs, which no doubt will be best sellers. Just when a lot of us are "slowing down" Ellouise seems to be picking up speed! -Ed)

Al Selby home from hospital!
It was good to get this update from Al Selby, who is now recuperating at home:
" I got home from the hospital last night about 6 PM. Spent 21 days in the hospital. I still have a drain tube in my chest and my left lung has not fully expanded yet. I am now on oxygen 24/7 waiting for the lung to seal itself (its leaks air) and completely expand to fill my chest cavity. More later.
Thanks for your prayers,"

1954 Woolworth Menu
It's kinda hard to believe isn't it. Ham Salad sandwich 30 cents, apple pie 15 cents.
No wonder they call them "The Good Old Days!"
But, since everything is relative they say, here is what that 40 cent sandwich and apple pie would cost in TODAY'S dollars....(Drum Roll)......... $3.14.
