Jacqueline Hart "Jackie" Lookabill (1935 - 2016)

Obituary

Our beloved Jacqueline "Jackie" Lookabill, 80, of Charlotte passed from this life on August 23, 2016 and is now enjoying Eternal Paradise in the loving care of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is survived by her husband, Gene Lookabill, daughter, LaGena Lookabill Greene (Daniel), and son, Gene Lookabill, II. She was born in Statesville, NC to Jack and Josephine Hart and moved with her family to Charlotte as a child. She worshipped at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church and attended school there. Jackie graduated from Central High School in 1954 where she enjoyed being a cheerleader and majorette and was named "Most Popular" and Central High "Beauty." We've admired her through the years that she was even more beautiful on the inside...a joyful, humble hearted servant to her family, friends and those in need. Jackie attended Kings Business College and then worked as a legal secretary, where her sharp business sense and rapid typing skills made her a valuable asset at a prominent law firm. She married her high school sweetheart, Gene on August 24, 1958 and the Lord blessed them with 57 years and 364 days of marriage! When her children were born, Jackie fulfilled the highest calling of being a stay at home mom. She treasured quality time with her family hiking and having picnics in the mountains, riding bikes on the beach and taking in the sunsets. She relished dancing with her husband and jazzercise with friends. She was a member of The Mountainbrook Garden Club and enjoyed sharing her blue hydrangeas with neighbors. She was a great cook and made dinners a meaningful time of sharing. Jackie and Gene were active members of Myers Park Methodist Church for many years then attended Calvary Church, where she and LaGena took a trip to the Holy Land with Dr. Ross and Carol Rhoads. Later they enjoyed David Chadwick's preaching at Forest Hill Church and most recently Dr. Mike Ross's sermons at Christ Covenant Church in Matthews. Jackie will be most remembered for her contagious joy, humility and authenticity. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Christ Covenant Church: 800 Fullwood Lane, Matthews, NC. 28105. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM at McEwen Funeral Service Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. A private burial was held on Saturday, August 27, 2016. Online condolences can be left atwww.mcewenpinevillechapel.com.

Margie Malone
... Margie passed away Tuesday, August 16th.  She had cancer a few years back, was pronounced free, but it returned.  She had been in Hospice a bit before death.  Norman and I are going to Richmond on Saturday for the memorial service at her church. Dick Gilland is going up also.
If anyone wants to send condolences, her daughter, Catherine Southhall's address is 3710 Darby Drive, Midlothian, VA 23113,

She was a good friend from the 7th grade at Piedmont up until now.  She lost her husband in 1997, and a son in 2010, but still enjoyed life in Virginia.

Art (Doy) Lim
Our classmate Doy Lim, died on June 2, 2016, following a battle with cancer.

Interestingly, soon after graduation from Central High School, Doy joined the Air Force.  In going through the documentation process he contacted his estranged father who told him his birth name was Arthur Lin.  So, thereafter he was know as "Art" Lin.

Condolences may be sent to his widow:

Summer Re-Runs

For 65 years, give or take a couple, I reminded radio listeners that the elderly should stay inside and not venture out during the excessively hot days of July and August....those words came off my tongue so automatically, never thinking that one day.......that warning would be directed to me!

Elderly?.....ME?

Balderdash !......Heck, I'm only .........80............years old.

80 years old?    There must be some mistake!  It feels like only yesterday when the Central High Chorus was singing "While We're Young"...on one of our final "Key Klub Follies" shows...

Also....the prom is coming up in a couple of weeks........

Now, THAT seems real........

this 80 year old stuff...........doesn't.  That's gotta be only a dream.

Meanwhile, try as I might, I just can't get interested in the Olympics.  Nevertheless I'm awfully proud of our American athletes!  I sure hope that tiny voice in my head that keeps whispering, "Remember Carl Lewis," (the runner who ran so fast that sparks flew from his feet.)...is wrong.

Oh.....I almost forgot. Those Re-Runs..........

Enjoy!!
