Every Boy...

....wants his father to be proud of him! No doubt that was a major factor in my case. Practicing football in 95 degree August weather was not something you did for the fun of it. There had to be another reason....a compelling one. Impressing the girls was one, of course but perhaps even more important was th almost universal desire of boys to impress their fathers! I remember vividly the first time I impressed my father. What a great feeling! And, it wasn't anything I did. No. It was somethin many of you dear readers did. It was one Valentine's evening when I was in the fourth grade, I believe, and I had brought home all the Valentines I had received and showed them to my Dad. He was obviously impressed by the sheer number of cards....and began reading the notes on each one. He literally "beamed." "You have a lot of friends, Son. I'm proud of you!"
